Moving Domains Across Accounts

Sometimes, a domain is attached to the wrong ImprovMX account. Maybe you made a typo in the login email, or you simply want to move it to another account you own.

This is also how you reclaim a domain that's yours: if another account added your domain to ImprovMX before you could — blocking you from adding it yourself — proving ownership here moves it to your account.

We offer a self-service process for this, which requires you to add a small TXT verification record to your domain's DNS.

Steps:

  1. Go to the Transfer a domain page.
  2. Fill in your domain and the email of the account it should move to. The destination account must already exist — sign up first if needed.
  3. You will be asked to add a specific TXT entry to your domain's DNS settings. This step ensures that you are the legitimate owner of the domain.
  4. Once you've added the record, click "I added it, check now" — or do nothing: we automatically check every few minutes for 2 days. As soon as the entry is found, the domain moves to the destination account, and we'll email that address to confirm.

Note that we notify the domain's current account when a transfer is requested. Only someone with control of the domain's DNS can complete it.
