ImprovMX SMTP with Gmail

Step-by-step guide to sending emails from your custom domain using ImprovMX SMTP with Gmail. Easy setup for reliable email sending.

Note: You must be a paid subscriber to use ImprovMX SMTP.

Additionally, this method references free/personal Gmail accounts. Mileage will vary for Google Workspace accounts and will depend on organizational settings.

Send emails from your custom domain directly within your Gmail inbox!

1 : Adding the SMTP User

Click the settings gear icon, select SMTP credentials,

Choose an alias, create a password then click Add.

2 : Adding the DNS Records

To ensure your emails are not flagged as spam, you’ll need to add two DNS records to your domain: DKIM and DMARC.

You can find the required values in your DNS settings panel inside the ImprovMX dashboard.

Copy the DKIM and DMARC records(see below) and add these records to your domain’s DNS provider( GoDaddy, Namecheap,Cloudflare etc.)

3 : Create your alias in Gmail

Open Gmail, head to "Settings" (cogwheel), "See all Settings" , "Accounts and Import" and under "Send mail as"  choose "Add another email address".

  • Fill in the settings as follows:

Treat as an alias No (uncheck)

Password Password generated under SMTP credentials

4 : Confirm your alias

Check your inbox (the email address your alias forwards to). You’ll receive a confirmation email from Gmail - either click the verification link or enter the code provided to confirm your alias.

5 : Test it!

Open Gmail, select compose, in the from field choose your alias and enter a different recipient addressdon’t use the same Gmail address your alias forwards to).

Add a subject and message body, then click Send. Check the recipient inbox to confirm the test email was received.
Success! You can now send emails from your alias using ImprovMX SMTP in Gmail. Want to add more aliases? Just repeat the same steps.
