Can I send emails without setting up forwarding?
If you only need to send emails from your custom domain, you can use ImprovMX SMTP sending without setting up email forwarding. Your MX records can stay pointed at your current email provider (e.g., Google Workspace, Rackspace, Microsoft 365).
What DNS records do I need?
To send emails via ImprovMX SMTP, you only need to add these DNS records for your domain:
- SPF — Add
include:spf.improvmx.comto your existing SPF record. If you already have an SPF record for another service, see Combining SPF Records. - DKIM — Two CNAME records that authenticate your outgoing emails.
- DMARC — A TXT record that tells receiving servers how to handle unauthenticated mail from your domain.
For step-by-step instructions, see Adding DKIM & DMARC Records.
Do I need to change my MX records?
No. MX records control where incoming email is delivered — they have no effect on sending. You do not need to change your MX records to send emails through ImprovMX.
MX records are only needed if you want to use ImprovMX email forwarding. Inbound forwarding features like aliases and forwarding rules won't work until you point your MX records to ImprovMX.
