Taking the Helm: The Next Chapter of ImprovMX

January 2nd, 2025

This is Matthew Tse, the excited new owner of ImprovMX!

Why I Acquired ImprovMX

Over the past decade, I’ve built a career around Site Reliability Engineering, working and managing across startups, big tech, and finance. I’ve gotten good at building resilient systems, well-oiled teams, and making useful products. I’ve long wanted to apply my skillset towards something completely my own. While there were a few side businesses over the years, I’ve been looking for something big to go full-time on.

My path to ImprovMX started like most of yours – building a new side project and looking for some way to accept customer emails. I didn’t want to pay for Google Workspace, and really just wanted something that forwarded to my existing gmail inbox. When I stumbled upon ImprovMX, I literally thought, “wow, forget my project, I wish I’d built this business…”.

It’s a beautifully designed technical product that solves a need very simply. And it has an approachable, bootstrapped business feel that makes users feel comfortable. Somehow it manages to make the “boring business” of SMTP forwarding into a fancy looking SaaS project, perfect.

A few more side-businesses down the road, I got an email and my eyes blew wide open when I saw the opportunity to acquire ImprovMX. This was a product I already used and loved, and my SRE background was a perfect match for this technical product. Lastly, it has a stellar organic growth engine from a decade of building trust in the community.

What’s Staying the Same

  1. Pricing: Existing users will be grandfathered, and no current plans to increase new user prices.
  2. Same Look & Feel: The website, the forwarding process, the reliability you depend on—all of that stays the same.
  3. Continuity: Matt Bowler and Yosif Gorelyov stay as customer success advocates, while Antoine and Cyril depart to focus on their new product, Fernand, the modern customer support tool for B2B SaaS. Our companies continue as partners and mutual customers!
  4. Sustainability: ImprovMX remains bootstrapped and profitable. We’re growing at a healthy pace, and we’re here for the long haul.

My Vision for The Future

That said, I’m really excited to inject new energy & ideas into ImprovMX:
