Rockstar Developer
Description
Looking for a ROCKSTAR DEV to join our crew.
This is a dream role for a specific type of person. This person:
- Enjoys coding, hates bureaucracy - there's satisfaction to deploying code and watching it do its thing. We'll get out of your way and enable you as much as possible to do this more.
- Works smart not hard - no daily standups, no required hours, just do good work, we'll give you maximum flexibility.
- Is highly opinionated on tooling - you love trying and tweaking new tools (AI's, code editors, terminal colors, monitors, keyboards, etc.) because it means you can translate thought to action faster. We'll subsidize/encourage you to use whatever you want.
- Believes in outcome based compensation - there's no seniority or set compensation bands, you'll earn more as you deliver more business value.
Responsibilities
These are some examples of what you might work on. But you'll constantly switch hats to deliver maximum value to the business, all the while learning a ton.
- Build new features, from conception, design, implementation, iteration, deployment, and post-deployment polishing.
- Relentlessly search for areas of customer friction and sand down the rough edges.
- Dive into server/database performance to optimize delivery, reduce costs, and/or improve reliability.
- Handle on-call rotations to respond to production incidents.
- Deep dive into crusty old email protocol RFCs to improve our email deliverability and compliance.
- Write algorithms to catch abusive users.
Qualifications
Must Have:
- Strong opinions on the latest AI tools (ChatGPT, Cursor, Claude Code, etc.). If you're not an AI-fiend, don't apply.
- 2+ years of experience as a developer with a reputation for getting sh*t done.
- Type blazingly fast and be an internet/computer native.
Nice to Have:
- You should be an expert in at least one of these, and be able to quickly learn the others:
- Modern Javascript frameworks (React, etc.)
- Python (Flask, scripts, etc.)
- Database systems (SQL, MongoDB, Redis, etc.)
- Cloud environments (AWS, GCP, etc.)
- Metrics and monitoring (Prometheus, Grafana, etc.)
- There's zero Ruby, Laravel or other cute frameworks here. We believe in stable, boring, well-supported technologies that get out of the way of shipping.
- Experience with email protocols (SMTP, SPF, DKIM, DMARC, etc.)
- Knowledge around DNS, IP addresses, and how internet plumbing works
